Cookie notice

We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking pixels. The only optional cookie on getbestbylocals.com is Lemon Squeezy's affiliate cookie. We only ask about it if you arrive through a partner's link, and it is set only if you click Allow.

What may still be stored on your device

• Security cookies from our host. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set strictly necessary cookies to protect the site from bots and attacks. They don't track you across sites. [LEGAL REVIEW: confirm which, if any, Cloudflare sets on our plan.]
• Your saved guide (after you buy). When you open your guide, your browser keeps a copy so it still works through short gaps in mobile signal. The copy includes its expiry time and is deleted automatically when your access window ends, even if you're offline. This is strictly necessary to provide the guide you asked for.
• Referral and campaign details. If the link you followed contains a partner ID (aff), campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign) or a discount code (discount), your browser keeps them for this tab only (session storage, cleared when you close it) and we pass them to Lemon Squeezy with your order. If you click Allow (below), the partner ID and campaign tags are kept for 30 days instead (local storage).
• Partner links: we ask first. Only if you arrive with ?aff= in the link, a small prompt asks: "This link is from one of our partners. Allow a cookie so they get credit for recommending us?"
  • Allow → we load Lemon Squeezy's affiliate script (lmsqueezy.com/affiliate.js). It registers the visit with Lemon Squeezy, creates an anonymous device identifier, and sets a cookie called ls_aff_ref (lifetime set by Lemon Squeezy for our programme) so the partner is credited if you buy.
  • No thanks → the affiliate script is never loaded and no affiliate cookie is set. The partner ID still goes with your order as order information, for this tab only, so we can credit the partner manually if, for example, you also used their discount code.
  • Your choice is remembered for 30 days in local storage, so we don't ask again. This is strictly necessary to respect your choice. No prompt is shown to anyone who arrives without a partner link.
• Lemon Squeezy's lemon.js. Every page loads a small script from Lemon Squeezy (app.lemonsqueezy.com). It sets no cookies; it can read the affiliate cookie above.
• Your language choice is part of the web address (for example /en/), so no cookie is needed.

[LEGAL REVIEW: confirm the prompt wording, the 30-day memory of the choice, and passing the partner ID as order information after "No thanks".]
